Litchfield Butterfly Retreat
INVITES YOU TO AN EXHIBTION BY ANNA REYNOLDS
5 PM Saturday
13th August 2011
After winning a QANTAS Foundation Encouragement of Australian Contemporary Art Award last year and the Togart Contemporary Art Award - Peoples Choice (2010) Anna Reynolds has jokingly been ‘making plans for world domination’ which have transpired into a hectic and monumental year of travel. This has included a 6-week residency and exhibition in Yogyakarta Indonesia, 4 weeks of mindless roaming and random performance art in the UK, and 4 weeks of intensive art-making at a work-lodge in New York City. Bringing it all back home to Batchelor and coinciding with the Darwin Festival is an exhibition of small-unframed paintings/collages. Titled Generic Metropolis, the new work engages intuitive perception surrounding issues of a generic globalisation and the demise and rise of the modern world. It draws on the environmental issues and metaphors found in her previous work, Awesome Atrocities (2010), amidst the Mangrove and Metropolis (2009) Darwin Bold New Future (2009) and A big city up there (2008) while including the influence of international travel and adventure.
